·         What happens in an interview?

·         What does a good handshake and eye contact mean?

·         Should you wear your flip-flops or “wife beater” to the awards ceremony or interview?

·         Why do you need so many forks and other utensils to eat your meal?

·         What is a resume and why do I need one?

·         Conflict resolution – what does it mean?

If you have asked yourself any of these questions OR did not know they are important, the answers were addressed during Yes You Can! Young Lady – Young Man’s Life Cycle Program.

The program began Tuesday, June 22nd and was facilitated by Nina R. Maxberry, Executive Director, YYC; June Forte, Northern Virginia Community College Instructor; Felicia Lott; and “Miss Sunshine” Jefferson.  Founder, Mr. HatCat Mill provided transportation and “lunch time” snacks throughout the 10-week workshop.

Guests included:  Barbara Redner, Independent Beauty Consultant for Mary Kay, who shared with the students the importance of taking care of your body internally and externally.  Shirley Cason, facilitated the etiquette module on fine dining and place settings and Lawrence Giles, Reliable Rails – Manassas, shared with the students how he never gave up in reaching his goal of becoming a successful business owner.

The latter sessions of the workshop were dedicated to career development, resume writing, and interviewing.  Area education leaders, business leaders, and counselors conducted a mock interview session with the students.  The interviewers were:  Pastor Radford; Dr. Jan Chamber; Ed Rishell; Maxine Taylor; Carlette Allen; and Sheila Roberts.

We would like to thank everyone who supported and/or assisted in this year's Life Cycle Program!

To the students we trust you will move forward empowered to begin your journey of a very successful and rewarding life.  Don't forget --- you can call on us at any time!!
